It was 80s spectacular but now is something feared: I am talking about Lycra. In the UK we have the rather derogatory acronym MAML (middle aged man in Lycra). Cycling is the fastest growing pursuit in the UK, so despite the lurid connotations, Lycra’s appearance is sharply rising. Much to my surprise, due to necessity, I too have joined the Lycra gang. It has many practicalities: reduced wind resistant, flexible, sweat licking, quick drying…If you have an athletic figure like the Brownlee boys then it is also your chance to show your bod off! A family friend lives near the boys and got them to sign this photo of them at London 2012 for me as a graduation present. It hangs in a place which I have to walk past frequently and motivates me on every swim/bike/run practice I have. 2015 is my Lycra year.
