My fashion journo career started with YiTrends and then AnyWearStyle as their Shanghai/Nanjing correspondent. I really miss being amongst the many creatives I met whilst studying in China who are doing an wonderous job of bring inspiration and ideas from the world over then merging them with what they see every day in China to make something unique in their industry. Even if you are on the ground it can be hard to keep up with all that is being done by these inventors, but never fear, there is one way to keep your knowledge sailing smoothly upon this innovative storm and it is via Creative Collective (CC). CC is powered by Sandy Chu and Zhao Xin who bring together some of the best design work at lively and friendly events. Every month CC hosts an after work event called Hangout so even the busiest in Shanghai can divulge in beautiful design. This Wednesday Hang Out is back from 8 pm until midnight at Dada.
Besides their rotating mix of creatives, my top pick comes from the CC’s own multi-talented Zhao Xin who will be presenting her independent accessories label Redesigns which was recently nominated by Timeout Shanghai as the city’s best designer. I love her accessories collection featuring vintage strips of jacquard.
Another special guest to seek out is the crew from 48 Film Project who will be holding a mini costume and prop swap for their end of November event.
If you are coming from work or one of Shanghai’s other exciting displays of talent then you stomach need not rumble as Mr. Waffle will be serving authentic Belgian waffles. Other treats on the night include Pinyin Press‘s hand drawn collection of gift cards and home goods, Korean jewellery from R Studio and t-shirts from DJ Heatwolves.
