My beloved purple Cambridge Satchel bag, bought for me as a surprise.

Mid-January has just gone and already many people I see on London’s streets are school and work weary. Suits are grey and the weather is wet, so I have a little suggestion to  lighten people’s moods: get a new bag. Don’t roll your eyes and think, “Typical woman.” Think about it, you use this item every day, you look and use it countless times and if the sight of it is uninspiring then you will be uninspired. I am not suggesting you go out and buy a neon rucksack, by all means do, but here are my top picks for a smart study or work bag which might bring a little spring rejuvenation earlier than you expected.

In October 2013 Aspinal of London had a preview of part of its S/S 2014 collection at Claridge’s. Recognisable faces such as Millie Manderson from MIC were amongst those inspecting familiar shapes from the London leather stalwart. Normally I pass Aspinal off as reliable and predictable as a cashmere jumper, nothing exciting. However, it has managed to create the practical and elegant bag so many exec ladies are after, the Marylebone Tech. This popular tote has been update and renovated to include an integral juice pack and cable paths so you can charge a phone or tablet on the move. No more crawling on the floor looking for plugs to energize your PPT, no more fighting for outlets, making the modern woman even more slick; men will be jealous.

Unlike previous charger integrated purses, such as the Mighty Purse, which is have lacked sophistication, the Marylebone is handmade from the finest Black pebble textured Italian calf leather. Other stylistic notes include dual tubular top handles and discrete equestrian styled strap with stud detailing. Crucially, the gadget juicer is not bulky, keeping the rest of the bag capacious enough for a padded iPad pocket and another open pocket for a Smartphone. Your wonder woman gizmos are kept secure with a full length zip.

If you really want to stamp your ground use the complimentary personalisation service. Two initials can be embossed in gold foil to the side strap of your Marylebone Tote. Who needs their job title on the door when your moveable office is marked? To redeem this offer you need to place your order with the Aspinal customer service team by calling: 0845 5172 719. At £995 you may need to get a new job to afford this tech IT bag but at least you will not need to rent office space!

A budget friendlier option (£49.99) for both guys and girls is the tweed Super Satchel from Superdry. This work classic features top handle and adjustable shoulder strap which can convert the bag into a rucksack. The quilted lining will keep tablets, small laptops and phones scratch-free and is divided into two compartments so you can keep work and lunch separate. I love my purple Cambridge Satchel Company bag but am annoyed at having to undo the front buckles when in a hurry, however, this Superdry version has twin magnetic clasp closures to prevent grappling with fiddly fixtures.
